✨ It all begins on the slopes of Mercurey…
Some wines speak to you with the first sip. Others tell their story the moment you read the label. “Les Vignes de Maillonge” is the latter.
Picture a crisp autumn morning in Burgundy: a light mist still clings to the vines, leaves are turning amber, and the air is filled with the earthy scent of damp soil and ripe fruit. It’s here, on the limestone-clay slopes of Mercurey, that this quietly confident, character-driven cuvée is born.
🍇 Domaine Michel Juillot, Four generations, one vision
The story of Domaine Michel Juillot is one of family, legacy, and precision. For four generations, the Juillot family has tended their vines with the care of artisans, combining traditional Burgundian savoir-faire with a forward-thinking approach.
Today, Laurent Juillot continues the work of his father and grandfather, crafting wines that are expressive, pure, and true to their terroir. Each parcel is vinified separately to reveal its identity, and Les Vignes de Maillonge is among the domaine’s crown jewels, rooted in old vines and deep soils.
Mercurey AOC: The red soul of the Côte Chalonnaise
Often overshadowed by its famous neighbors in the Côte de Nuits, the Mercurey AOC is Burgundy’s hidden treasure, especially when it comes to Pinot Noir. With sun-drenched hillsides and mineral-rich soils, Mercurey produces reds that are vibrant, structured, and disarmingly honest.
These are wines of substance and soul, approachable, yet capable of surprising depth and complexity.
Tasting Notes: A wine that opens slowly, like a secret shared
Pop the cork, and time slows. In the glass, it shimmers deep ruby, radiant and inviting.
The nose unfolds gently: black cherry and crushed raspberry, giving way to subtle spice, forest floor, and a touch of smoky oak, beautifully integrated.
On the palate, it’s all about finesse. Silky texture, elegant grip, and a fresh backbone that keeps the wine lively. The tannins are refined yet present, promising a graceful evolution over time. The finish lingers, long and pure, with a whisper of minerality.
Perfect Pairings and Serving Temperature
This isn’t a wine that shouts. It listens, responds, and deepens with time, the perfect companion for thoughtful meals and quiet evenings. It pairs beautifully with:
Roasted duck breast with cherry glaze
Stuffed pigeon or veal with wild mushrooms
A creamy Brillat-Savarin with truffle
Ideal alongside a classic Boeuf Bourguignon or other rich, slow-cooked beef dishes
And honestly, it’s just as satisfying with a crusty loaf of bread and a good conversation.
Serving suggestion: Serve chilled between 14 and 16°C (57-61°F) for the perfect balance of freshness and structure.
❤️ Why We Love It
Because it’s Burgundy at its most authentic, a Pinot Noir of integrity, depth, and quiet charm.
Because it delivers serious pleasure without the grand cru price tag.
And because it’s the kind of wine you find, fall for, and then share only with friends who’ll truly appreciate it.
